. . . . even a caveman can do it! (Yeah, those commercials bug me, too.) I had some time on my hands while Rich was gone. Mostly in the "after the kids go to bed" hours when things were just a little too quite. Well, a girl's gotta do something, so I put on some BBC movies that aren't quite so Rich-like and broke out the sewing machine. By the way you ladies out there, "Wives and Daughters" is fantastic. And, I had never seen Sense and Sensibility---I didn't have the right to call myself female until I watched that. Also gained a new love for Pride and Prejudice and Mr. Darcy. Aaaahhhh . . . .
Anyway, back to the sewing machine. Usually I only sew out of necessity, and even then I grumble while doing it. Never much cared for sewing. Sorry, Mom! I think it comes from my dislike for reading instructions and manuals -- and patterns are a kind of manual for making things. Blah. One night I came across a tutorial for a really cute little girl skirt that seemed really quick and easy--my kind of instructions. I think I must think just like Alice in Wonderland . . . ."what good is a book without any pictures?" Amen, sister! Ditto for instructions . . . . include some pictures, people! And this blog had plenty of those (check it out--you'll be all sorts of inspired). So, I decided to give it a whirl. And then I gave it another whirl for a my friend Heidi's little girl, Hannah. What do you think of my whirls?
Here is a close-ish-up of Olivia's skirt:
Complete with hair accessories and everything:
Here is the one I made for Hannah (I tried, but Ryder wouldn't model it for me--his father would be proud):
And the extra scraps became this (and from my own brain, nonetheless--mostly I'm just good at stealing others ideas):
Heidi sent me some pictures she took of Hannah wearing all this cuteness, as I think it is twice as a-DOR-able on than off:
And, yes, she's got some mad skills with the camera.
Motto of this post: "If I can do it. . . sew can you."
Gotta go, as I hear Ryder yelling, "Let's make Owen cry!" Yeah, that's my two year-old bullying my six year-old. How proud am I.

Olivia's is adorable too! I love, love, love Hannah's skirt. But nope I don't think I could have made it myself :). You are talented, Shar ... just admit it!
Those skirts are fantastic Shar! And so adorable with the headbands and all. I'm impressed. Again.
Very, very cute! I am inspired as soon as I get my house in some kind of order it is time to sew!!
Oh my goodness! I must make one! love them!
How cute are those?? I love them, you are one amazingly talented woman. Oh how I wish I could sew!!!
Pretty sure, if you can do it does not mean I can do it. I LOVE IT! The fabrics are darling. I've got to show my mom. She has one granddaughter to satisfy all her girlie sewing. Shar, you are so dang talented.
you have an eye & ability for these things - the patterns/fabric you chose is so cute! I wish I could just pick up and do a project like that....I'm all for watching the movies you talked about (Mothers and Daughters is a new fave for me as well!), but I'd probably just sit there and watch the show and forget to do a project!
You ARE amazing . . that's it. WoW!
